Hey everyone!!
A lot has happened since my last email. After a month of living in the same building as 50 other missionaries, we received the news that all non- Ukrainian missionaries serving in Ukraine were to be evacuated from the country and reassigned to a new mission. So last Sunday our mission president announced from the pulpit all our reassignments and it was quite the experience. Most us got assigned to somewhere in Germany or Europe and will probably have to learn to learn new language. Another group of us got assigned to somewhere in the US or Canada. Me and three other missionaries got sent to Chicago!
Our plane ride was long and quite adventurous. We encountered a few Russian speakers and even helped translate for a couple of them who didn't know English super well. When we arrived in the US, one of the security officials at customs asked us if we'd be willing to be interviewed so they could gather information about the situation in Ukraine. We weren't able to help much, but it was kind of cool none the less.
28 hours after waking up Wednesday morning, we arrived in Chicago and met the mission president, President Shumway. He's a really cool guy and served part of his mission my hometown, Kennett Square, PA!
Now I'm serving in an area called Gurnee, north of Chicago in a trio. My companions are Elders Turcsanski and Hilton. Missionary work in the states is way different than missionary work in Ukraine. We have a car, most people speak English, and I had my first dinner appointment yesterday!
Have a good week and God loves you!
